iap: Rise of tha Matriarch EP

Background

Iampimohse’s iap: Rise of the Matriarch EP was created out of prayer, heart and spirit with the primary intention of healing her personal intergenerational trauma that she had experienced as a IRS, IDS, and Foster Care Survivor. In addition it is created to also address the following concerns:

  • Raise awareness about the lack of accessible, responsive, underfunded Indigenous-based Mental Health & Wellness Services & Support that exists within North Central, Regina which is home to the second largest urban Indigenous population centralized in one community.

  • To de-stigmatize the stereotypes and myths that exist about mental disorders, mental illness, and hip-hop and promote authentic hip-hop as a meaningful truth-speaking tool which can be used strengthen Mental Health & Wellness.

  • To raise awareness of about the effects intergenerational trauma and destigmatize that exist Indigenous people and promote Truth & Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action.

We have only enlisted a few main reasons; however, there many more which are creatively shared throughout the album.

THE AUTHENTICITY OF THIS ALBUM FULLY HONOURS & RESPECTS :

iap: Rise of tha Matriarch Mixtape (Vol. 1)

There is no one right way to heal trauma - just an authentic way which acknowledges, honours the truth of the person in-healing.

Adult Sing-A-Long to

iampimohse released catch me outside to address the malicious rumours that were created about her after the sudden passing of her daughters father. Tommy Da. The people who created these rumours used them in attempt to damage her character, career, success and her healing.

After two years, iampimohse had decided that her first release would be to acknowledge the situation through this track & fire back at the persons who had created and continue to feed the lateral violence in the community.

Today this song is being showcased internationally on the Coast 2 Coast Live online

        1: Catch Me Outside

Leader of tha Squad was written to reflect her experiences of what it was like to be a long-time partner of an active Indigenous gang member and hip-hop artist. This song is to give respect and props to the women who stand by their partners whom are involved in the street life.

Many men do not choose to live this lifestyle, as they are usually are forced it because of poverty, lack of employment skills, mental health issues, and safety. Many stay involved and stay loyal because they find of love, belonging, and acceptance that they do not receive from the rest of society.

People do not realise that most of these young men have partner’s, families and loved ones whom also by default of their involvement also become associated with the lifestyle. This song was written to honour a “street boss wifes” experience.
